De lucht was wel vochtig en het vroor erg hard, met als gevolg: rijp. Dit was de eerste keer dat ik dit op deze manier meemaakte op de Hoge Venen. Het zorgde voor een fraai kleurenpalet dat ik nog niet had waargenomen op deze plek. Het witte laagje bevroren mist zorgde ervoor dat de hele ven een uniforme kleurtoon kreeg en maakte zo van de competities een mooi geheel. Ook al was het erg koud buiten kreeg ik een warm gevoel vanbinnen. Dit is ook nodig in de winter, alles lijkt dor en doods. De sneeuw zorgt er hier voor dat die contrasten zoals bij rijp er ook door komen maar de verschillen tussen die contrasten zijn veel groter. Wat ook goed om te weten is, is dat je fototoestel zichzelf wat gek maakt met al die sneeuw. Waarom verkies ik nu deze lenzen boven mijn 16-35mm? Ten eerste: Less is more. Door een grotere brandpuntsafstand te nemen ga je soms te veel in je foto opnemen. Het lijkt soms erg aanlokkelijk om de hele omgeving in beeld te brengen. Dit mannetje kan je verslepen naar je map en droppen op ofwel wegen voor streetview van de plek of op de blauwe bolletjes op de map. Deze zijn spheres die gebruikers kunnen uploaden in Google Maps. Zo kan je de omgeving waar je naartoe wil toch al even bekijken. Ik weet het. De grootste hoofdzonde in landschapsfotografie is tegen de zon in fotograferen. En dit zorgt vaak ook voor meer last dan dat het opbrengt. Nu in bossen kunnen we dit wel in ons voordeel gebruiken. Foto’s maken in een bos als de zon al volop schijnt is erg moeilijk. Je hebt er fel licht die voor scherpe schaduwen zorgen. Eerst een duidelijk subject kiezen. Die ene boom die je aanspreekt of een tak met een mooi kleurtje. Van hieruit ga ik verder kijken om het shot te composeren. Het eerste waar ik op let is overlapping. Als je te veel bomen achter mekaar zet gaat het niet meer duidelijk zijn waar jij je op wilt focussen. Soms is een halve stap naar links of rechts al genoeg om die separatie te verkrijgen. De tweede compositietip is het kaderen van je subject. My love for photography began during a trip along the west coast of the United States, where the vast landscapes and national parks sparked a desire to capture the beauty around me.
