6 things you can do during quarantine as a photographer

During this pandamic the greatest fear I have is not to be able to go outside and photograph. I know there are worst things than not be able to do your hobby but it is still difficult for me. So i thought to myself: “What are the things I can do inside where I am still doing my hobby?” So here are my 6 tips you can do as a photographer while spending alot of time inside.

  1. Clean your equipment

I think this is one of the things we sometimes slack in (well I do). But this is the perfect moment to clean everything. Order a sensor cleaning kit and clean it. Dismantle your tripod and clean it. Look for corrosion on your kit and take care of it.

This way our gear will be up and running when we are able to go outside again and take some new “bangers”.

  2. Tutorials

In this day and age we can learn almost anything on the internet. Same thing with photography. There are tutorials on every different genre of photography. Now is a great moment to go and look into this. Youtube is an almost endless source of these things. There are other platforms like Skillshare that will let “professionals” teach you some more in depth stuff. A third option is to buy a tutorial from your favourite photographer. I’ve seen people like Nick Page and Gavin Hardcastle doing some promotions on their tutorials at te moment.

  3. Re-editing old pictures

We all have a library of old pictures we have processed and never have looked back to. On the other hand we all evolve in time. Either we adopt a different style of editing or learning new techniques. So maybe it is a good idea to get some of these old pictures back up on the screen and re-edit them.

  4. Learn everything about your camera

We have amazing machines in our hand but do we know what they are really capable of? So get that manual you got with your camera and start reading. There are settings you have to change at different points of taking photographs like digital noise reduction when doing astrophotography. Also mapping the buttons on your camera, getting used with the different modes,….

  5. Getting inspired

Take a look in some photography books, listen to some podcasts, watch a vlog of one of your favourite photographer. Reach into different arts like architecture or painters. See what music can do for your while your editing. There are so much different kinds of art that can inspire you. Be more open to this!

  6. Plan a next trip

Location scouting is so important for landscape photography. Not only know where the locations are, but also know how they position in different light, when it is the best moment to go there, knowing if you need permits are all very important. Going on Instagram an making saved folders for different places is a great way to keep it all organised. Making Google maps with different colour pins is the way I do it.

I hope these tips wil keep you busy during these difficult days and still learn more and become better in photography
